A Wedding in a Transformed Power Station

From the desk of: Phoebe Allen

Maggie and Crosby’s wedding was one like no other, because it was quintessentially Maggie and Crosby with every detail reflective of who they are as individuals and as a couple.  Our groom is a graphic designer and designed every single piece of print materials we incorporated throughout the day.  From our Save The Dates to our bar signage his custom logo was seen throughout.  Maggie’s rehearsal dinner dress was her mother's wedding dress remade by a local couture designer for a current, yet classic design and our florist, Many Graces, planted seeds and bulbs in their gardens to grow specially for Maggie and Crosby’s special day.  We even had the opportunity to visit the bulbs in the ground during our meetings.

Hosted in a 26,000 square foot power station turned raw venue space and they were only the third couple to share their nuptials in the space.  The space featured 67’ ceilings, windows like a cathedral, exposed brick walls, steel beams in the ceiling and can accommodate over a thousand guests, yet, instead, we curated an intensely intimate experience for 160 family members and the closest of friends.

As guests entered, they experienced something as close to a stroll through the forest underground as you could create in an interior space and its beauty and elegance was enhanced because the florist quite literally foraged through the wooded areas of Western MA to create just the right look and feel - even hand crafting birds nests in the nooks and crannies.  As they emerged from this “forest pathway experience”, guests were seated in the round and throughout the ceremony our bride and groom periodically turned 45 degrees so that each guest had an opportunity to fully envelop the couple with their love and support.   After “I DO”, guests were treated to our signature cocktails, each of which were named after their one-eyed cats (a unique way for their 4 legged loves to have a cameo of sorts), under a truly epic “starry night” custom chandelier made from over 250 LED light bulbs.

Guests then moved to nearly 70’ long rectangular dinner tables embellished with candles, accent lighting, autumn’s most beautiful tall branch material in shades of warm amber and golden yellow and and floral to create an intimate setting.  Each place setting was hand made by our couple from their vintage label maker.  Our couple had their first dance in and amongst the dinner tables gracefully gliding along side their closest family and friends.  Rather than remaining on stage with the rest of the band, the lead singer of the band performed along side Maggie and Crosby, as though you were at a private show.  After an artful meal, our dance party started with Splash! singing ‘Music for a Sushi Restaurant’ which packed every single guest onto our dance floor where they remained for the next 3 hours!  But the night did not end there.  We had an afterparty in the mezzanine level of the power station.  The stairs were adorned with dozens and dozens of disco balls and after party posters, again custom created by our groom!  The whole bridal party hard a wardrobe change to suit the occasion - everyone was decked in head to toe sequins!

Every aspect of this wedding was truly hand chosen, original and apropo to Maggie and Crosby , each decision was thoughtful and purposeful and made for a beyond magical evening for our couple and their guests.
