The Do's and Don'ts of Interviewing
From the desk of: The AE Events Team
We understand that interviewing for your dream job might be scary and nerve-racking… but just remember to breathe, practice and read our pro-tips below!
What TO do:
Bring copies of your own resume and a note pad/pen.
Dress appropriately ~ you don’t have to be dressed to the nines, but please look professionally put together.
Ask questions during the interview, you don't have to wait till the end! Make it a flowing conversation.
Ask the interviewer what position they’re in, what they like about the job, and how they got where they are! Make it feel personable.
Send your thank you email within 24 hours, better yet by EOD on interview day. Extra points for a hand written letter.
Stand up when the interviewee walks in the room and give a firm handshake.
Do your research about the company!! A specific example or reference to something you felt connected to, interested in, or surprised by never hurts!
Confirm the meeting the day before with your contact.
Keep your phone on silent and off the table.
Take a minute to think about the question, try to not say ‘um’ or other filler words.
Make it known you want THIS job, not just any job.
Do your research on what the roles and responsibilities are for the job.
What NOT to do:
Chew gum during the interview.
Lose track of the questions asked.
Arms crossed.
Touching your hair and shaking legs ~ fidgeting.
Phone ringing.
Don’t use AI to answer questions during a phone interview!
Act like you have already got the job.
